The 2026 Forest River R-Pod 171 remains a fan favourite for travellers who want maximum utility in a minimal footprint. Known for being one of the lightest self-contained trailers in its class, the 2026 model continues the “no-slide” tradition, making it incredibly easy to tow and maintain.
Modern Upgrades & Features
The 2026 edition leans heavily into “off-grid” readiness and tech-forward convenience.
Solar Power: Now standard with a large roof-mounted solar panel and a 30-amp charge controller, making boondocking much more viable right off the lot.
Appliances: Features a 12V Black Glass Refrigerator (which stays colder during travel than propane models) and a high-efficiency Air Fryer Microwave.
Climate Control: Includes a 15,000 BTU A/C unit and a tankless water heater for on-demand hot showers—a major luxury for a trailer this size.
Exterior Tech: Comes with a black glass friction hinge door, a power tongue jack, and “Slam Latch” baggage doors that feel much more premium than the standard twist-latches on older models.
Interior Layout
Despite its 19-foot length, the 171 uses its space efficiently:
Rear: A permanent 60″ x 74″ Queen Bed ensures you don’t have to convert your table every night.
Front: A spacious Booth Dinette sits under the iconic R-Pod curved front window. This dinette also converts into a secondary sleeping area.
Mid-ship: A compact wet bath and a galley kitchen with Surf-X seamless countertops and a two-burner cooktop.
“Hood River Edition” (West Coast Package)
If you’re looking at units in the Western US or Canada, you’ll likely see the Hood River Edition. This package adds:
Advanced Ground Clearance: For navigating rougher forest roads.
All-Terrain Tires: Mud Legend tires with an integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
12V Tank Heaters: Essential for extending your camping season into the late fall or early spring without worrying about frozen lines.
Optional Equipment
R-Pod Camp-Ready Package (Mandatory Package)
Hood River Edition (Mandatory West Coast Package)
